This chair is the most important piece of furniture in Africa, usually taking the form of a stool or a chair. It serves as a social insignia because each person is entitled to a type of seat which corresponds to their social rank. These vertical backed chairs with half moon seats are typical of the Woliso people. The back of the chair has a pattern created by excising wood in geometric shapes to create a stained glass window effect. Some also incorporate additional incised design. These chairs have been extensively used and are thus heavily patinated.
**Each item is handmade and unique in design & formation. No two are alike - the one you purchase may not be shown.
