These baskets are traditionally used to make maize. Although they are all from the same tribe, separation of the groups over the years has led to a slight differentiation in design. The Zimbabwe type is characterized by its flatness, whereas the Zambian version is deeper with a broader square “foot”. It takes one artisan up to two weeks to make one basket that's approximately 35cm in diameter.
